The year 2023 will mark the 110th anniversary of the Seiko Laurel, the brand’s and Japan’s first wristwatch, and to honor the occasion, Seiko is releasing a limited edition watch, the Presage SPB359.

 

This re-edition pays tribute to the 1913 Seiko Laurel, with a compact 37.5 mm polished stainless steel case, an onion-shaped crown, and articulated lugs. The strap is also a faithful reproduction of the original Laurel's thin and complex band, made of deer leather and closed by a steel pin buckle. The box-shaped sapphire crystal and the screwed caseback give this watch 50m water-resistance. 

The dial of this Seiko watch features a white enamel dial, with black-painted Arabic numerals and a red 12 marker, just like the original Laurel. This dial is made by master craftsman Mitsuru Yokosawa and his colleagues at a workshop specialising in enamel production. Time is indicated centrally, with a date sub-dial at 6 o’clock and a power reserve indicator discreetly at 9 o’clock. The movement used is the automatic calibre 6R27, a well-known movement often found in the Presage line. 

 

This limited edition Seiko watch is a faithful re-edition of the original Laurel, with a modern twist. 

The Seiko Presage Laurel Re-Edition SPB359 will be a limited edition of 2,500 pieces and available from January 2023. This limited edition Seiko watch is a great way to honor the brand’s first wristwatch and celebrate Seiko’s history.
